Educator. Researcher. Investigator. Journalist.
Teaching about and reporting on power, systems, and communities.
I’m Scott Brinton, a Long Island–based journalism professor and reporter with three decades of experience covering social justice, trauma, environmental and health crises, and the human impact of government neglect and negligence. My work blends people-centered reporting, narrative storytelling, documentary photography, and extensive use of public records to examine how institutions shape everyday life.
I am now Hofstra University’s graduate journalism director, executive editor and faculty adviser to The Long Island Advocate, and co-director of the Hofstra Summer High School Journalism Institute.
I previously served as executive editor of Herald Community Newspapers and have freelanced for The New York Times and Newsday. My work has also appeared on/in CBS News, MSNBC, WABC Eyewitness News, the Oprah Winfrey Network, The Riverdale Press, Long Beach Magazine, La Tribuna Hispana, and Jewish Star.
